Shirley Ann Wheat Bewley, age 88 of Fountain Run, KY passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023 at her home.
Shirley was born in Barren County, KY on December 25, 1934, a daughter of the late Delmar and Ruby (Fisher) Wheat.
In Shirley’s younger days she attended elementary school at Capitol Hill and graduated from Austin Tracy High School in 1952. She married J. Lewis “Jiggs” Bewley on April 28, 1953 in Bethpage, TN. They lived in Louisville, KY for 35 years before returning to Capitol Hill in 1990. Shirley joined Capitol Hill Missionary Baptist Church in 1969 and was the piano player there for many years. Shirley enjoyed flowers, being a seamstress, cooking and bird feeding.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, J. Lewis “Jiggs” Bewley, of Fountain Run, KY; two daughters, Marla Coy (Bruce) and Monica Harris (Kevin) of Louisville, Ky; also survived by two grandchildren, Phillip Allgeier (Kim) and Ashley Kennedy (Scott), six great grandchildren, Isaiah, Lily, Audrey, Belle, Jackson and Finley, and sister-in-law and friend, Elmina Wheat, and a niece, Patty Blevins.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Rex and Ted Wheat and a grandson, Trevor Harris.
Funeral services will be held at Fountain Run Funeral Home on Monday, August 7, 2023 at 12 noon with Bro. Ricky Huff and Bro. Terry Mahaney officiating. Burial will follow at Wood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, August 6 from 2-7 p.m. and on Monday morning from 8:00 a.m. until service time at 12 noon at Fountain Run Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wood Cemetery.
