Hazel Mae (Cleary) Murley

Hazel Mae (Cleary) Murley, 96, of Burkesville, KY, formerly of Fountain Run, KY, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Cumberland County Hospital. Hazel was born on March 10, 1925, a daughter of the late Richard and Annie Bera (Murphy) Cleary.

On April 3, 1939, she married Stanley Murley. They had been married 47 years at the time of his passing in March of 1986.

In 1939, Hazel was baptized at the age of 14 at Glasscock Branch in Monroe County, KY. She was a member of Elbow Church of Christ.

Hazel is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Settle of Fountain Run, KY; four sons, Royce Murley of Scottsville, KY; Bobby Murley (Linda) Fountain Run, KY; Jerry Murley (Estelene) of Gamaliel, KY and Ricky Murley (Kathy) of Lucas, KY; two daughter-in-law’s, Betty Murley and Linda Murley, both of Fountain Run, KY; 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren, 1 step great-great grandchild, 2 step great-great-great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Della Canada, of Indianapolis, IN and Carolyn Ann Cleary of Tompkinsville, KY; and one brother, Patton Cleary, of Tompkinsville, KY.

Hazel is preceded in death by five children, James Murley (Edna Mae), Leonard Murley, Mary Curtis (Delano), Susie Firkins, Floyd Murley; 3 grandchildren, Cynthia Stinson, Christina Cauthen and John Murley;  a daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Murley; four brothers, Harley Cleary, Marlin Cleary, Lecil Cleary and Dennis Cleary; and two sisters, Pauline Rhoton and Zella Thacker.

Funeral services will be held at Fountain Run Funeral Home on Friday, February 18, 2021 at 1:00 PM, with burial to follow at Fountain Run Cemetery. Brother Tim Eaton will officiate.

Visitation will be held Thursday 2:00-8:00 PM and Friday, 8:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM at Fountain Run Funeral Home.

For the protection of Mrs. Murley’s family, it is kindly asked to wear a mask to all services.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Murley’s memory may be made to funeral expenses.
